BOWDOIN COLLEGE

About 200 yards from the Inn, enter the gates of Bowdoin College, Maine’s oldest private college. From late August until late May, the College teems with activity, from exciting NESCAC sporting events to the world of arts and culture in venues such as the world-class Studzinsky Recital Hall.

In the summer, the campus hosts The Bowdoin International Music Festival  Enjoy performances by world-renowned musicians such as the Ying QuartetYefim BronfmanItamar Zorman, and Tessa Lark.  The Brunswick Inn is the official inn of The Bowdoin International Music Festival.

THEATER, ART, MUSEUMS, DINING

Summer wouldn’t be summer in Brunswick if not for the Maine State Music Theater.   The Theater Project showcases local talent with its innovative performances and "pay-what-you-can" price structure.

On a rainy day, enjoy the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum on the Bowdoin College campus, The Skolfield-Whittier House, or, for Civil War aficionados, the Joshua Chamberlain Museum. The Chocolate Church Arts Center has wonderful theatre, music and art center.  Participate through workshops, view amazing crafts by local artisans, or experience beautiful performances. Seafaring traditions come to life at the Maine Maritime Museum, overlooking the Kennebec River in Bath.  Come learn what influence the ships had on Maine life.

Second Friday Artwalks are a great way to explore Downtown Brunswick. The walks showcase 18 local galleries and studios between downtown Brunswick and Topsham. Come for a cultural stroll and dine in one of Brunswick’s many restaurants. Our favorites?  Tao Yuan, Enoteca Athena, Frontier Cafe, Henry and Marty, and Scarlet Begonias. Amazingly, you can get Indian, Japanese, Thai, German, Mexican, Irish, Italian, Greek, and classic American fare all within a 10-minute walk of the Inn. Bring your appetite

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

If the great outdoors is more your style, enjoy proximity to some of Maine’s most beautiful beaches and state parks.  Popham Beach, a spectacularly pristine sand beach, is about a 40 minute drive from the inn, as is Morse Mountain and Reid State Park. They are beautiful in any season.

Bradbury Mountain is great for hiking and biking. In the winter months, choose from many of our nearby snowshoeing venues or just head across the street to the Village Green for some ice skating. Like a throwback in time, you’ll feel like you stepped into a Norman Rockwell painting. Reflect on it all over a cup of cocoa or a glass of wine in front of one of our five working fireplaces.  LL Bean Outdoor Adventures include canoe, kayak, paddleboard, hunting, and fishing outings. And speaking of LL Bean . . .

SHOPPING

For the shoppers out there, get your wallets ready!  Shopping in Freeport all began with LL Bean, but now you can hit Cole Haan, Banana Republic, Abercrombie, Ralph Lauren, J. Crew, Brooks Brothers, and dozens more, all within reach of just one parking space.  Freeport is just a 15 minute drive away.  But don’t feel you need to get in your car at all: Brunswick shops are top-notch, with stores such as Nest for home décor and gifts, Wilbur’s Chocolates for sweets, Bayview Gallery for fine art, Keith Field for jewelry, and so many more.
