A Thriving Cultural Scene in Brunswick, Maine

When I relocated to Maine in 2003, my friends from New York were agog and aghast. Their faces turned vaguely ashen. They must have had visions of me in chunky handknit sweaters sitting by the woodstove every Saturday night.

Fast forward to 2022. They’re all headed north. For music, for plays, for galleries and museums.

Brunswick is ripe for the even fussiest art lover’s picking. See below for a roundup for things to do in Brunswick, Maine!

Enjoy a performance by Zlatomir Fung, the first American in four decades and youngest musician ever to win First Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition Cello Division.

The Pacifica Quartet plays Haydn and Schumann.

Discover the most exciting contemporary music during The Gamper Festival.

…and oh so much more during this world-class six-week festival!

Maine State Music Theater

Always amazing! This year’s shows are selling out, so don’t wait too long!

It may be an easy walk from OneSixtyFive to the Music Festival and the Maine State Music Theater, but all you need to do is grab a rocker on our front porch to enjoy the Wednesday night concerts on the mall. This year don’t miss the Jason Spooner Band!

Brunswick Outdoor Arts Festival

One of my favorite days of the year in Brunswick is this August festival, when amazing sculptors, painters, wood workers, jewelry makers, photographers and more come together to fill Maine Street and the mall with fabulous finds.

And finally, Thompson's Point in nearby Portland, Maine is the quintessential waterfront summer concert venue. Grab a bite from the food trucks and enjoy Fitz and the Tantrums, Sheryl Crow and Keb Mo, Phoebe Bridgers, Bon Iver and more! Average room rates in Portland are high this year, so stay away from the fray and enjoy the peace and quiet of Park Row after the show.
